Traditional banana bread can be full of calories, making it hard to enjoy if you’re eating healthy or counting your calories. This healthy banana bread is less in calories because I use whole wheat flour and a few select ingredients that make it just 150-200 calories per slice.

All you have to do is bake a loaf of banana bread with healthier ingredients than usual like whole wheat flour and unsweetened applesauce and that makes all the difference! Serve slices of the bread alongside a selection of spreads like butter, nut butter, and jam.

Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 ripe bananas mashed
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt plain or vanilla
- Optional add-ins: chopped nuts dried fruits, chocolate chips, etc.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas using a fork or potato masher until smooth.
- Add the honey or maple syrup, unsweetened applesauce, eggs, vanilla extract, and Greek yogurt to the mashed bananas.
- Stir until all the wet ingredients are well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Be careful not to overmix.
- If using any optional add-ins such as chopped nuts, dried fruits, or chocolate chips, gently fold them into the batter until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it out evenly using a spatula.
- Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the loaf pan for 10-15 minutes.
- Then, carefully transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
- Slice the banana bread into 12 equal slices and serve.
- Enjoy it warm or at room temperature as part of your brunch spread.

Storage Tips
